Das Potenzmittel Viagra könnte im kommenden Jahr rezeptfrei werden. Im Januar berät ein Expertengremium der Arzneimittelbehörde BfArM über eine Entlassung des Wirkstoffs Sildenafil aus der Verschreibungspflicht. Dies berichtet der Branchendienst "Apotheke Adhoc".
Aktuell sind Präparate mit Sildenafil nur auf Rezept erhältlich. Stimmen die Experten dem Antrag zu, könnten die beiden Dosierungen à 25 und 50 mg je Tablette auch ohne vorherigen Arztbesuch in der Apotheke gekauft werden. Allerdings müsste das Bundesgesundheits-ministerium (BMG) erst noch die Arzneimittelverschreibungsverordnung (AMVV) ändern. Viagra kam am 1. Oktober 1998 auf den deutschen Markt. Die potenzsteigernde Wirkung von Sildenafil hatten Forscher des Herstellers Pfizer zufällig entdeckt. Das Mittel wurde schnell zum Kassenschlager und sorgte dafür, dass Erektionsstörungen nicht länger als Tabuthema behandelt wurden.
2,4 Millionen Packungen verkauft
Nach Zahlen des Marktforschungsunternehmens Insight Health wurden in diesem Jahr bis einschließlich November in den Apotheken knapp 2,4 Millionen Packungen an Mitteln gegen Erektionsstörungen verkauft, ein Plus von 6 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr. In der Regel werden die Präparate auf Privatrezept verschrieben, nur in seltenen Fällen übernehmen die Krankenkassen die Kosten.
In vielen europäischen kann Viagra ohne Rezept bezogen werden
Auf Sildenafil entfallen 55 Prozent aller Packungen, häufig verordnet werden auch die verwandten Wirkstoffe Tadalafil (Cialis, Lilly) und Vardenafil (Levitra, Bayer) mit Marktanteilen von 36 beziehungsweise 4 Prozent. Alle drei Wirkstoffe sind mittlerweile generisch. In anderen europäischen Ländern, darunter Großbritannien, Polen, Schweden und Norwegen, können Viagra & Co. schon seit einigen Jahren ohne Rezept bezogen werden. pm, ots

The potency drug Viagra could become prescription-free next year. In January, a committee of experts of the BfArM (Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices) will discuss the release of the active ingredient sildenafil from the prescription requirement. According to figures from the market research company Insight Health, almost 2.4 million packs of erectile dysfunction drugs were sold in pharmacies this year up to and including November, an increase of 6 percent over the previous year. As a rule, the preparations are prescribed on a private prescription; only in rare cases do health insurance companies cover the costs.
