"Es wäre nicht richtig, die Pendlerpauschale jetzt abzuschaffen, denn das würde den gesellschaftlichen Frieden gefährden", sagte Habeck der Düsseldorfer "Rheinischen Post". "Aber wenn die Union die Erhöhung der Pendlerpauschale plant, setzt sie für den Klimaschutz das völlig falsche Signal", sagte Grünen-Politiker.
"Die Erhöhung würde ja als Anreiz wirken, mehr Benzin zu verbrauchen. Dabei soll ein CO2-Preis genau das Gegenteil erreichen: Er soll Anreize setzen, weniger CO2 zu produzieren", sagte Habeck. Die Grünen wollten dagegen "die kompletten Einnahmen aus einer CO2-Bepreisung an alle Menschen gleichmäßig zurückzahlen und die Stromsteuer auf fast null senken", sagte Habeck. "Das Energiegeld würde dann auch den Pendlern zugutekommen", erklärte er. Habeck nannte es zudem "extrem irritierend", wenn die SPD in den derzeit laufenden Klimaschutz-Verhandlungen auf eine komplette Rückvergütung der Einnahmen aus der CO2-Beüpreisung an alle Bürger verzichten wolle.
GroKo produziert neue Ungerechtigkeiten
Würde die große Koalition einen CO2-Preis einführen, der Benzin und Heizöl teurer mache, aber auf der anderen Seite nur punktuell zum Beispiel die Pendler entlasten, produziere sie damit neue Ungerechtigkeiten. "Das ist der falsche Ansatz", sagte Habeck. Berufspendler können derzeit pro gefahrenem Kilometer zum Arbeitsplatz 30 Cent in ihrer Steuererklärung als Werbungskosten angeben.
Anhebung der Pendlerpauschale um 20 Prozent
Das CDU-Präsidium hatte am Montag beschlossen, Pendler stärker zu entlasten, wenn durch die Klimaschutzbeschlüsse der Koalition Benzin und Diesel künftig teurer werden. "Sobald der Spritpreis aufgrund der CO2-Bepreisung steigt, werden wir die Pendlerpauschale entsprechend erhöhen und gleichzeitig mit einem klaren Klimasignal ausstatten", heißt es in dem Präsidiumsbeschluss.
