"Sie ist zum Symbol und Vorbild einer ganzen Generation herangewachsen, die es zu Millionen auf die Straßen zieht, um für eine bessere Klimapolitik zu protestieren", so OOOM-Chefredakteur Georg Kindel, Vorsitzender der Jury. "Greta Thunberg hat dieses Jahr dominiert und durch ihren beharrlichen Einsatz für den Planeten vor allem eines gezeigt: dass jeder Mensch die Kraft besitzt, die Welt zu verändern."
Von der Klimaaktivistin bis zur Weltfußballerin
Auf Platz 2 folgt Jane Fonda, "die als Klimaaktivistin den leidenschaftlichen und furchtlosen Protest für eine bessere Welt führt und sich dafür sogar regelmäßig verhaften lässt. Eine Frau, die uns allen zeigt, was Courage ist", so die Jury. Platz 3 belegt Michelle Obama, die mit ihrer Autobiografie Frauen ein neues Bewusstsein gab. Auf Platz 4 folgt mit Sanna Marin Finnlands neue Ministerpräsidentin und jüngste Regierungschefin der Welt, die "zeigt, wie Politik heute aussehen muss". Auf Platz 5 ist mit Megan Rapinoe die Weltfußballerin 2019 zu finden, die sich für die Rechte von Homosexuellen und Minderheiten einsetzt, gefolgt von Nancy Pelosi auf Platz 6. "Die Sprecherin des Repräsentantenhauses wurde durch das Amtsenthebungsverfahren zu Amerikas politischem Gewissen", so die Meinung der Jury.
Männer folgen auf den Plätzen
Bestplatzierter Deutscher ist der Künstler Anselm Kiefer auf Platz 38, bestplatzierter Österreicher der Benediktinermönch und gratefulness.org-Gründer David Steindl-Rast auf Platz 50, bestplatzierte Britin die Schauspielerin und Autorin Phoebe Waller-Bridge auf Platz 10. The lifestyle magazine OOOM has published its annual ranking "The most inspiring people in the world" for the fourth time. Eight women are among the first 10 places and Greta Thunberg was voted the most inspiring person of the year.
"She has become the symbol and role model of an entire generation, millions of whom take to the streets to protest for better climate policies", said OOOM editor-in-chief Georg Kindel, chairman of the jury. "Greta Thunberg has dominated this year and through her persistent commitment to the planet has shown one thing above all: that every human being has the power to change the world."
From climate activist to world footballer
Jane Fonda follows in second place, "who as a climate activist leads the passionate and fearless protest for a better world and even regularly gets herself arrested for it. A woman who shows us all what courage is," the jury said. Third place went to Michelle Obama, who gave women a new awareness with her autobiography. In fourth place comes Finland's new prime minister and the world's youngest head of government, Sanna Marin, who "shows what politics must look like today". In 5th place is Megan Rapinoe, the world footballer for 2019, who stands up for the rights of homosexuals and minorities, followed by Nancy Pelosi in 6th place.
