Gerhard Schröder (75) will auch im neuen Jahr nicht kürzertreten. "Ich könnte ohne Arbeit nicht sein", sagte der frühere Bundeskanzler der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" zum Jahreswechsel.
"Sie ist ein Lebenselixier, das mich auch geistig fit hält." Ein geringeres Pensum könne er sich nur schlecht vorstellen. "Ohne Arbeit wäre ich unzufrieden, und das wäre ja auch nicht schön für die Menschen in meiner Umgebung. Also wird das Jahr 2020 für mich sicherlich arbeitsreich, damit es wieder ein schönes Jahr wird."
Schröder hält sich mit Golfspielen fit
Den Silvesterabend verbringt der SPD-Politiker mit seiner neuen Frau, Soyeon Schröder-Kim, in Wien. "Meine Frau liebt sehr klassische Musik, deshalb werden wir dort mit einem guten Freund das Neujahrskonzert besuchen", erzählte Schröder. Er ist Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender mehrerer Aktiengesellschaften, nimmt zahlreiche Termine im In- und Ausland wahr und tritt auch regelmäßig als Gastredner oder bei Wohltätigkeitsveranstaltungen auf. Körperlich hält er sich mit dem Golfspiel jung. "Wenn man neun Loch spielt, ist man zwei Stunden an der frischen Luft, und fünf, sechs Kilometer sind es immer", sagte er. "I could not be without work", the former Chancellor told the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" at the turn of the year.
"It is an elixir of life, which keeps me mentally fit." He could hardly imagine a lower workload. "Without work I would be dissatisfied, and that would not be nice for the people around me. So the year 2020 will certainly be busy for me, so that it will be a good year again."
Schröder keeps fit with golf
The SPD politician is spending New Year's Eve with his new wife, Soyeon Schröder-Kim, in Vienna. "My wife loves classical music very much, so we will attend the New Year's concert there with a good friend," Schröder said. He is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of several stock corporations, attends numerous events in Austria and abroad and also regularly appears as a guest speaker or at charity events. Physically, he keeps himself young by playing golf. "When you play nine holes, you're out in the fresh air for two hours, and five or six kilometres is always the distance," he said.
