Alle Branchen des Gastgewerbes wiesen infolge dieser Maßnahmen die größten Umsatzeinbußen seit dem Beginn der Zeitreihen im Jahr 1994 auf: So fiel der Gastgewerbeumsatz im März 2020 real (preisbereinigt) um 45,4 % gegenüber März 2019. Wie das Statistische Bundesamt (Destatis) weiter mitteilt, setzte das Gastgewerbe nominal (nicht preisbereinigt) 44,0 % weniger um als im Vorjahresmonat. Im Vergleich zum Februar 2020 fiel der Umsatz im Gastgewerbe im März 2020 nach Kalender- und Saisonbereinigung real um 44,6 % und nominal um 44,5 %.
Deutlich weniger Umsätze
Die Hotels und sonstigen Beherbergungsunternehmen wiesen im März 2020 im Vergleich zum März 2019 real 51,0 % und nominal 50,0 % niedrigere Umsätze aus. In der Gastronomie fiel der Umsatz im März 2020 gegenüber März 2019 real um 42,4 %. The Corona pandemic had a significant impact on the German hospitality industry in March 2020, when overnight stays by tourists in hotels and other accommodation facilities were prohibited from 18 March onwards. From 22 March, restaurants were completely closed with the exception of pick-up and delivery services.
As a result of these measures, all sectors of the hotel and restaurant industry recorded the biggest drop in turnover since the time series began in 1994: in March 2020, turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry fell by 45.4% in real terms (price-adjusted) compared with March 2019. As the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) further reports, turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry was 44.0% lower in nominal terms (not price-adjusted) than in the same month of the previous year. In March 2020, hotels and other lodging facilities reported a decline in turnover of 51.0% in real terms and 50.0% in nominal terms compared with March 2019.
