Bereits im Sommer 2019 habe die Umweltschutzorganisation NABU dort zwei Riffe nachgewiesen, die das Umweltministerium zum Anlass nahm, den Meeresboden genauer zu untersuchen. Daraufhin fanden sie jetzt weitere Riffe, die durch die Fehmarnbeltquerung beeinträchtigt würden. Schon letzte Woche geriet das milliardenschwere Bauprojekt in massive Kritik durch den EU-Rechnungshof. Die Kostenplanung sei ausufernd und die Verkehrsprognosen fehlerhaft.
NABU-Präsident Jörg-Andreas Krüger sagte: "Die Bauplanung des Ostseetunnels wirkt nachlässig: Die Kosten sind mittlerweile auf rund 8 Milliarden Euro gestiegen, die Verkehrsprognosen sind fehlerhaft und die Zerstörung des einzigartigen marinen Ökosystems unwiderruflich. Das alles steht in keinem Verhältnis zum Nutzen. Seit über 10 Jahren warnt der NABU vor dem Bau des völlig überteuerten Prestigeprojektes. Wir hoffen, dass dieses klima- und umweltschädliche Großprojekt durch die berechtigte Kritik vom EU-Rechnungshof und dem Kieler Umweltministerium jetzt neu bewertet wird". pm, ots

The Kiel Ministry of the Environment confirmed the discovery of further stone reefs along the planned Baltic Sea tunnel route, which are under strict nature protection. In the summer of 2019, the environmental protection organisation NABU had already discovered two reefs there, which the Environment Ministry took as an opportunity to examine the seabed more closely.
As a result, they have now found further reefs that will be affected by the Fehmarn Belt crossing. Last week, the EU Court of Auditors already massively criticised the billion-euro construction project. The cost planning was excessive and the traffic forecasts were incorrect.
NABU President Jörg-Andreas Krüger said: "The construction planning of the Baltic Sea tunnel seems careless: The costs have now risen to around 8 billion euros, the traffic forecasts are flawed and the destruction of the unique marine ecosystem is irreversible. All this is out of all proportion to the benefits. For more than 10 years, NABU has been warning against the construction of this completely overpriced prestige project.
