Eine Studie der Deutschen Sporthochschule Köln im Auftrag der Deutschen Sporthilfe und des Bundesinstituts für Sportwissenschaft, in Kooperation mit Athleten Deutschland und dem DOSB, zeigt dies nun erstmals im Detail.
Die durchschnittlichen Bruttoeinnahmen von Deutschlands Nachwuchs- und Spitzenathleten sind im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 355 Euro pro Monat gesunken, das sind 17% weniger als 2019. Bei den aktuell 466 Mitgliedern der Olympia- und Paralympics-Kader, also der Gruppe der Medaillenhoffnungen für Tokio und Peking, fällt der Rückgang mit monatlich 1.287 Euro und damit 25% der Einnahmen am höchsten aus. Allein diese Athletengruppe erleidet im Jahr 2020 kumuliert einen Einnahmeverlust von rund 6 Mio. Euro. Athleten im Perspektiv- und Ergänzungs-Kader stehen 332 Euro und damit 15% weniger Einnahmen im Monat zur Verfügung, Athleten im Nachwuchskader 24 Euro und damit 3% weniger.
Verluste bei Einnahmen aus dem Wettkampfbetrieb
Vor allem bei den Einnahmen aus dem Wettkampfbetrieb, wie Antritts- und Preisgelder, beklagen 32% aller Kaderathleten einen Einnahmenrückgang, dies gilt sogar für 46% der Olympia- und Paralympics-Kader. Die Einnahmen aus Sponsoringverträgen reduzieren sich für 22% aller Kaderathleten, beziehungsweise für 38% der Olympia- und Paralympics-Kader. Die Förderung der Deutschen Sporthilfe sowie die Unterstützung für die Inhaber einer Sportförderstelle bleiben hingegen konstant und verlässlich. Die persönlichen Ausgaben der Athleten bleiben über alle Kaderstufen hinweg auf gleichem Niveau.
Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie
Studienleiter Prof. Dr. Christoph Breuer, Prorektor Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln, stellte die Studie in der Sitzung des Sportausschusses des Deutschen Bundestags vor: "Unsere Ergebnisse belegen die umfassenden Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie auf die finanzielle Situation von Deutschlands Spitzenathleten. Vor allem für die Teilnehmer an Olympischen und Paralympischen Spielen fallen die Einbußen dramatisch aus. Für das nächste Jahr erwarten die Athleten sogar noch größere Verluste."
Einnahmerückgang um weitere 600 Euro
Für das Jahr 2021 gehen die Athleten der Olympia- und Paralympics-Kader im Schnitt von einem zusätzlichen Einnahmerückgang um weitere 600 Euro pro Monat aus. Über 12 Monate würden dies Mindereinnahmen von 22.700 Euro pro Athlet beziehungsweise knapp 10,6 Mio. Euro für die gesamte Athletengruppe im Vergleich zu 2019 bedeuten. Die Athletinnen und Athleten der Perspektiv- und Ergänzungskader rechnen hingegen mit einem leichten Einnahmeplus von 150 Euro pro Monat, die Nachwuchskader mit einem Plus von 133 Euro. pm, ots

The corona pandemic has had financially painful consequences for the young and top athletes supported by Deutsche Sporthilfe. A study conducted by the German Sport University Cologne on behalf of Deutsche Sporthilfe and the Federal Institute for Sports Science, in cooperation with Athletes Germany and the DOSB, has now shown this in detail for the first time.
The average gross income of Germany's junior and top athletes has fallen by 355 euros per month compared to the previous year, which is 17% less than in 2019. Among the current 466 members of the Olympic and Paralympics squads, i.e. the group of medal hopefuls for Tokyo and Beijing, the decline is the highest at 1,287 euros per month and thus 25% of income. This group of athletes alone will suffer a cumulative loss of income of around 6 million euros in 2020. Athletes in the perspective and supplementary squads have 332 euros and thus 15% less income per month at their disposal, athletes in the junior squad 24 euros and thus 3% less.
Losses in income from competition operations
In particular, 32% of all cadre athletes complain about a decline in income from competition activities, such as entry fees and prize money, and this applies to 46% of the Olympic and Paralympic cadres. Income from sponsorship contracts is reduced for 22% of all athletes and 38% of the Olympic and Paralympic squads. In contrast, sponsorship from Deutsche Sporthilfe and support for the owners of a sports sponsorship agency remain constant and reliable. The athletes' personal expenses remain at the same level across all squad levels.
Effects of the Corona Pandemic
Head of the study, Prof. Dr. Christoph Breuer, Prorector German Sport University Cologne, presented the study at the meeting of the Sports Committee of the German Bundestag: "Our results prove the comprehensive effects of the corona pandemic on the financial situation of Germany's top athletes. Especially for participants in Olympic and Paralympic Games, the losses are dramatic. For next year, the athletes expect even greater losses".
Revenue down by a further 600 euros
For the year 2021, athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic squads expect an additional drop in income by an average of another 600 euros per month. Over 12 months, this would mean a loss of income of 22,700 euros per athlete or almost 10.6 million euros for the entire group of athletes compared to 2019. In contrast, the athletes of the prospective and supplementary squads expect a slight increase in income of 150 euros per month, the junior squads an increase of 133 euros.
