Das Tempo bei der Impfstoffentwicklung sei "absolut beeindruckend", "daher können wir auch hoffen, dass es bei der Produktion noch schneller gehen wird", sagte der CDU-Politiker. "Jetzt ist jedenfalls nicht der richtige Zeitpunkt, um über Privilegien für die ersten Geimpften zu streiten, dazu wissen wir noch zu wenig über Dauer und Umfang der Impfwirkung." Dass absehbar noch zu wenig Impfstoff für alle da sei, "wird natürlich eine große Geduldsprobe, gerade für jene, die das Virus persönlich fürchten", räumte der Parlamentspräsident ein. Aber es sei "zum Besten aller, wenn wir nicht nur uns selbst sehen", appellierte er.
Kommt auf den Gemeinsinn an
Mit Blick auf jüngste Umfragen zur gestiegenen Impfbereitschaft ergänzte Schäuble, es sei "eine frohe Botschaft, dass sich die große Mehrheit der Bevölkerung impfen lassen will". Er habe Respekt vor denjenigen, die dem Impfstoff mit Skepsis begegneten. "Gleichwohl sollten auch sie akzeptieren, dass es nicht nur auf das eigene Empfinden, sondern auf den Gemeinsinn ankommt, wenn wir die Pandemie überwinden wollen, und das Impfen ist dafür notwendig. Natürlich werde auch ich mich impfen lassen, sobald ich an der Reihe bin!"
