Denn Löw musste sich immer wieder der Kritik von rund 80 Millionen Bundestrainer(inne)n stellen. Löw wurde wegen seiner „glatten Auftritte als Werbemagnet und Influencer“ in der Öffentlichkeit meist nur noch als „Jogi“ bezeichnet.
Jetzt wirft Jogi das Handtuch. So ist es in Deutschland nun einmal: Fußball ist hierzulande letztlich „der Sport“ schlechthin. Schließlich hat Deutschland – auch wenn es länger her ist - vier WM-Titel und drei Europameister-Titel gewonnen. Seit Jahren allerdings hat das Team enttäuscht. Die Aussichten auf weitere Titel hatten sich zuletzt wohl auch deshalb eingetrübt, weil das Trainer-Team einige Fehler gemacht hat. Auch deshalb, hat es der Jogi wohl satt; sich gegen jene zur Wehr setzen zu sollen oder zu müssen, die vom Fußball-ABC aus seiner Sicht wesentlich weniger verstehen als er selbst. Löw, der schöne Schwarzhaarige, ist in Schönau/Schwarzwald geboren. Seine Nähe zu Freiburg ist bekannt und drückt sich nicht nur in der bewusst langsamen heimatgeprägten Sprache, dem Black-Forest-Slang, aus.
Harsche Kritik der Öffentlichkeit
„Der Jogi“ war sich inzwischen nach harscher Kritik der Öffentlichkeit wohl bewusst, dass seine Tage als Nachfolger von Herberger, Schön, Derwall, Beckenbauer, Vogts, Ribbeck & Co. gezählt sind. Er ist wohl gerade auch deshalb mit seiner Entscheidung nach vorne geprescht. So ist er einer offiziellen Entlassung durch den DFB wohl zuvorgekommen. Vieles spricht dafür, dass ihn Fritz Keller – der ihm aus gemeinsamen vergangenen Freiburger Zeiten sehr wohlgesonnen war - in seiner Eigenschaft als DFB-Präsident zuletzt doch den Rat des Rücktritts gegeben haben dürfte. Löw war als aktiver Fußballer, Keller als Vereinsvorsitzender für den SC Freiburg tätig. Es liegt nahe, dass Keller in der Beziehung zu Löw zuletzt als „Ratgeber“ aktiv war. Dadurch hatte Löw wohl die Chance, sein Gesicht zu wahren.
Rücktritt hat auch finanzielle Aspekte
Dass Löws Rücktritt nach der EM auch finanzielle Aspekte hat, steht außer Frage; denn der DFB ist mit mehr als 7 Mio. Mitgliedern der größte nationale Sport-Fachverband auf dem Planeten Erde. Dass die „Geldmaschine“ Fußball großen Reiz auf verschiedene Akteure auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen ausübt, ist hinlänglich bekannt. Der am 28. Januar 1900 in Leipzig gegründete DFB gilt wegen der Bedeutung, die dem Fußballsport in Deutschland beigemessen wird, als einer der reichsten Sportorganisationen der Welt.
Ausbleibende Erfolge des DFB-Teams
Es verwundert daher nicht, dass ausbleibende Erfolge des DFB-Teams (vor allem der Männer) auch wegen der damit verbundenen finanzielle Risiken kritisch beäugt werden. Das war nicht zuletzt nach den letzten multinationalen Wettbewerben (EM, WM) zu erkennen, als sich breite Enttäuschung auf verschiedenen Fußball-Ebenen Bahn brach. Das Versagen „der Mannschaft“ reichte in der Folge dann weit in den Amateurbereich und in den Jugend-Bereich hinab. Fußball verlor in Deutschland an Bedeutung, als „die Mannschaft“ bei den letzten Events arg enttäuschte. Klar, dass dem Trainer Joachim Löw dabei sehr viel Mitschuld zugeschrieben wurde.
Jetzt soll alles besser werden
Jetzt soll alles besser werden. Es kommt dabei allerdings nicht nur auf die Kicker, sondern auch auf Löws Nachfolger an. Und so verwundert es nicht, wenn die wichtigste Frage in der Öffentlichkeit nicht mehr länger in Richtung Corona-Pandemie geht, sondern sich die Diskussionen der Öffentlichkeit auf Trainer-Namen wie Klopp, Flick fokussiert. Alle Kandidaten sollten indes wissen: Es kommt nicht nur allein auf das Spiel und die Spieler an. Denn aus Fußball-Sport ist längst Fußball-Business geworden. He probably had a harder time as national coach than any of his predecessors in the current era of modernity - total online communication and digitalisation. Joachim Löw has had to fight hard against "the football people" in recent years, because he has repeatedly had to face criticism from around 80 million national coaches. Löw was usually only referred to as "Jogi" in public because of his "slick appearances as an advertising magnet and influencer".
Now Jogi is throwing in the towel. That's the way it is in Germany: football is ultimately "the sport" par excellence in this country. After all, Germany has won four World Cup titles and three European Championship titles - even if it was a long time ago. For years, however, the team has disappointed. The prospects for further titles have recently dimmed, probably also because the coaching team has made a few mistakes. This is probably another reason why Jogi is fed up with having to defend himself against those who, from his point of view, understand much less about football than he does. Löw, the handsome black-haired man, was born in Schönau/Black Forest. His closeness to Freiburg is well known and is expressed not only in his deliberately slow native language, the Black Forest slang.
Harsh criticism from the public
After harsh criticism from the public, "Jogi" was well aware that his days as the successor to Herberger, Schön, Derwall, Beckenbauer, Vogts, Ribbeck & Co. were numbered. This is probably one of the reasons why he has rushed forward with his decision. In this way, he probably pre-empted an official dismissal by the DFB. There is much to suggest that Fritz Keller - who was very sympathetic to Löw from their days together in Freiburg - may have advised him to resign in his capacity as DFB president. Löw was an active footballer, Keller a club chairman for SC Freiburg. It stands to reason that Keller was active as an "advisor" in his relationship with Löw. This probably gave Löw the chance to save face.
Resignation also has financial aspects
There is no question that Löw's resignation after the European Championship also has financial aspects; after all, the DFB, with more than 7 million members, is the largest national sports association on the planet Earth. It is well known that the "money machine" of football exerts great appeal on various players at different levels. The DFB, founded on 28 January 1900 in Leipzig, is considered one of the richest sports organisations in the world because of the importance attached to the sport of football in Germany.
Lack of success for the DFB team
It is therefore not surprising that the lack of success of the DFB team (especially the men's team) is also viewed critically because of the financial risks involved. This was not least evident after the last multinational competitions (European Championship, World Cup), when widespread disappointment broke out at various football levels. The failure of "the team" then extended far into the amateur and youth sectors. Football lost importance in Germany when "the team" disappointed badly in the last events. Of course, coach Joachim Löw was blamed for a lot of this.
Now everything should be better
Now everything is supposed to get better. However, it is not only the players who are important, but also Löw's successor. And so it is not surprising if the most important question in the public no longer goes in the direction of the Corona pandemic, but instead the public's discussions focus on coach names such as Klopp, Flick. All candidates, however, should know: It is not only the game and the players that matter. Because football sport has long since become football business. Money dictates the world - also in football.
