Den Daten der EU-Statistikbehörde Eurostat zufolge nimmt ihre Zahl seit Jahren zu. Im Vergleich zu 2019 betrug der Zuwachs 0,4 % beziehungsweise rund 1.200 Personen.
Mehr Deutsche leben in Österreich - Anstieg um 4 Prozent. Auf Platz 2 der Auswandererziele folgt Österreich, wo 2020 rund 200.000 Deutsche ihren Wohnsitz hatten. Der Anstieg gegenüber dem Vorjahr fiel mit 4 Prozent beziehungsweise rund 7.600 Personen höher aus als bei der Schweiz. Der Wohnortwechsel wird in beiden Fällen durch die räumliche Nähe und die fehlende Sprachbarriere erleichtert.
Großbritannien als Auswandererziel
Die drittgrößte Gruppe deutscher Staatsbürgerinnen und -bürger, rund 142.000 Personen, lebte im Vereinigten Königreich - hier liegen allerdings nur Daten für den Jahresbeginn 2019 vor. Auf Platz 4 der beliebtesten Zielländer folgte Spanien, wo 2020 rund 139.000 Deutsche ihren Wohnsitz hatten. pm, ots

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the occasion of Europe Day on 9 May 2021, around 307,000 German citizens were resident in the neighbouring country at the beginning of 2020.
According to the data of the EU statistics authority Eurostat, their number has been increasing for years. Compared to 2019, the increase was 0.4% or around 1,200 people. More Germans live in Austria - increase of 4 per cent. Austria follows in second place among emigration destinations, with around 200,000 Germans residing there in 2020. The increase compared to the previous year was higher than in Switzerland, at 4 per cent or around 7,600 persons. In both cases, the change of residence is facilitated by geographical proximity and the lack of a language barrier.
