Der SPD-Politiker sagte im Gespräch mit der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ), er könne die Stiko-Empfehlung, 12- bis 17-Jährige nur bei bestimmten Vorerkrankungen zu impfen, "überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen". "Der Gegner, der aktuell auf dem Platz steht, heißt Delta-Variante. Und diese wird sich vor allem auf diejenigen konzentrieren, die nicht geimpft sind. Vorrangig junge Menschen also, für die es keine Impfempfehlung gibt, was wiederum eine gewisse Zurückhaltung bei Ärzten nach sich zieht", kritisierte Weil.

Maßstäbe an bedrohliche Lage anpassen
Gleichzeitig gebe es viele Länder, in denen auch Kinder und Jugendliche geimpft würden, was er für "absolut plausibel" halte. Er habe kein Verständnis dafür, dass die Stiko ihre üblichen Maßstäbe und die Frage, ob in wenigen Einzelfällen Impfschäden drohten, nicht an die bedrohliche pandemische Lage anpasse.

"In Pandemiezeiten muss es doch vielmehr um die Frage gehen, wie viele schwere Schäden durch eine Impfung verhindert werden können", sagte Weil. "Die Stiko sollte ihre Haltung auch mit Blick auf die Zeit nach den Sommerferien noch einmal überprüfen", forderte der Ministerpräsident und fügte hinzu: "Das nächste Schuljahr kommt bestimmt." Und wenn die Stiko meine, die Datenbasis reiche noch nicht aus, möge sie sich das Datenmaterial "schnellstens" beschaffen. "Schließlich gibt es inzwischen viele Tausend geimpfte Kinder und Jugendliche auf der Welt."
