Der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" sagte Gabriel: "Wir sind seit 20 Jahren in Afghanistan - entweder waren alle Vertreter von Militär und Geheimdiensten, die die Lage dort einschätzen konnten, unfähig und wussten nicht, wie schwach die afghanischen Sicherheitskräfte in Wahrheit waren, oder alle wussten, was los war, und keiner hat etwas gesagt, weil sonst der Abzug geplatzt wäre." Der ehemalige Vizekanzler fügte hinzu, er glaube, dass Militär und Geheimdienste relativ präzise gewusst hätten, wie schlecht es um Kampfkraft und Moral der afghanischen Sicherheitskräfte bestellt gewesen sei.
Nach Irak ist auch Afghanistan gescheitert
Gabriel ergänzte auch mit Blick auf weitere Auslandseinsätze: "Der Westen hat eine viel zu idealistische Erwartungshaltung an die Idee des ,nation building' entwickelt. Die ist nach dem Irak jetzt auch in Afghanistan gescheitert. Manchmal fordert die viel beschworene ,wertebasierte Außenpolitik' mehr Blut und Opfer als die viel gescholtene Realpolitik."
"Seehofer hat recht" - Nicht alle dürfen einreisen
Mit Blick auf die Äußerung von Innenminister Horst Seehofer (CSU), nicht jeder, der nun nach Deutschland wolle, dürfe auch einreisen, sagte Gabriel: "Seehofer hat recht." Das ändere aber nichts an der Verpflichtung der Nato-Staaten - und damit auch Deutschlands -, den Afghanen Einreiseangebote zu machen, "die uns in Afghanistan geholfen haben und deshalb jetzt um ihr Leben fürchten müssen". pm, ots

Referring to Interior Minister Horst Seehofer's (CSU) statement that not everyone who now wants to come to Germany will be allowed to enter, Gabriel said, "Seehofer is right."
