Kassenärztechef Andreas Gassen hat die Aufhebung aller Corona-Beschränkungen zum 30. Oktober gefordert.
"Nach den Erfahrungen aus Großbritannien sollten wir auch den Mut haben zu machen, was auf der Insel geklappt hat. Also braucht es jetzt eine klare Ansage der Politik: In sechs Wochen ist auch bei uns Freedom Day! Am 30. Oktober werden alle Beschränkungen aufgehoben!", sagte der Vorstandsvor-sitzende der Kassenärztlichen Bundesvereinigung (KBV) im Interview mit der "Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ). "Das gibt jedem, der will, genug Zeit, sich noch impfen zu lassen. Meine Wette: Dann sind wir Ende Oktober bei einer Impfquote von 70 Prozent oder noch höher, weil sehr viele Menschen das Angebot dann doch schleunigst annehmen werden."
Kein Gesundheitsnotstand abzusehen
Gassen berief sich bei seinem Vorstoß auf die Erfahrungen in Großbritannien, wo Premier Boris Johnson schon Mitte Juli die Pandemie-Eindämmung weitestgehend beendet hatte. "Dort ist das Gesundheitssystem nicht kollabiert. Das muss Mut machen, zumal das deutsche Gesundheitssystem deutlich leistungsfähiger als das britische ist und deutlich mehr Schwerkranke, die wir hoffentlich auch nicht haben werden, behandeln könnte", erläuterte der KBV-Chef. Ohne die Ankündigung eines 'Freiheitstages' "werden wir uns endlos weiter durch diese Pandemie schleppen", sagte er. "Bei den Briten war das vielleicht noch wagemutig. Die Dänen sind dem Weg schon gefolgt. Auch dort ist kein Gesundheitsnotstand abzusehen. Also, worauf warten wir?"
Es gibt eine "German Angst"
Der Kassenärztechef beklagte, die Corona-Politik folge seit anderthalb Jahren der Linie "Vorsicht, Vorsicht, Vorsicht!". Es gebe eine "German Angst", und man sei hierzulande "wohl viel zu lange einer Kontrollillusion aufgesessen. Deswegen ist der Kurswechsel für einige umso schwieriger." In Großbritannien seien wissentlich mehr Infektionen zugelassen worden. Das sei durchaus "forsch" gewesen, "aber im Augenblick gibt die Situation in England den Befürwortern des Freedom Day recht".
Corona wird eine normale Erkrankung
Bissig kommentierte Gassen jüngste Äußerungen von Charité-Virologe Christian Drosten, in Großbritannien werde die Corona-Lage deutlich früher als in Deutschland "endemisch", also weitgehend harmlos. "Die Aussagen von Christian Drosten sind schon bemerkenswert!", sagte Gassen. "Jetzt konstatiert er - wie es andere Virologen schon vor einem Jahr gesagt haben -, dass sich Corona zu einer normalen Erkrankung abschwächt, wenn ein erheblicher Anteil der Bevölkerung ,durchseucht' ist, so wie es für Großbritannien absehbar ist. Und weil Deutschland maximal vorsichtig war, bleibt Corona für uns noch länger bedrohlich, und deswegen müssen wir noch lange vorsichtig sein. Im Ernst, diese Argumentation ist schon etwas eigenwillig."
Widersprüchliche deutsche Corona-Politik
Die Quote der vollständig Geimpften liege auf der Insel mit gut 65 Prozent nur wenig höher als in Deutschland, gab der KBV-Chef zu bedenken. "Hier offenbart sich die ganze Widersprüchlichkeit der deutschen Corona-Politik", sagte er. "Es war ziemlich schnell klar, dass irgendwann so gut wie jeder Kontakt mit diesem Virus gehabt haben wird. Und dass deswegen jeder Versuch, Corona durch Wegsperren der Leute auszuhungern, zum Scheitern verurteilt ist, siehe das Scheitern von Zero Covid in Australien."
Impfquote von 70 Prozent reicht aus
Er sei "sehr zuversichtlich", dass durch eine "Freedom Day"-Ankündigung rasch eine Impfquote von 70 Prozent zu erreichen sei, sagte Gassen weiter. "Das wäre aber wohl auch ausreichend, da die Risikogruppen schon jetzt weitgehend durchgeimpft sind." Viel mehr als 70 Prozent dürften auch kaum zu erreichen sein, da etwa Kinder bis zwölf Jahre noch nicht geimpft werden könnten, das seien immerhin neun Millionen Menschen. Und ein Teil der Bevölkerung lehne das Impfen einfach ab. "Aber es werden auch deutlich mehr als vier Millionen Menschen sein, die offiziell genesen sind, die eine Infektion schon überstanden haben und immun sind, insgesamt wahrscheinlich eher mehr als 10 Millionen", mutmaßte der KBV-Chef. "Vor diesem Hintergrund wäre eine Impfquote von 70 Prozent ein sehr guter und auch hinreichender Wert. Also müssen wir da so schnell wie möglich hinkommen."
Nichtgeimpfte haben ein Restrisiko
Für diejenigen, die sich weiterhin nicht impfen lassen würden, bestehe zwar immer ein Restrisiko, auf der Intensivstation zu landen, etwa weil Vorerkrankungen nicht entdeckt worden seien, die bei einer Corona-Infektion zu schweren Verläufen führen. "Aber es ist nicht Aufgabe des Staates, jeden davor zu schützen, wenn längst ausreichend Impfstoff da ist", konstatierte Gassen. pm, ots

No health emergency in sight
Gassen referred to the experiences in Great Britain, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson had already largely ended the pandemic containment in mid-July. "There, the health system did not collapse. This must be encouraging, especially since the German health system is significantly more efficient than the British one and could treat significantly more seriously ill patients, which we hope we will not have either," the KBV head explained. Without the announcement of a 'freedom day' "we will continue to drag ourselves endlessly through this pandemic", he said. "With the British, that was perhaps still daring. The Danes have already followed the path. There is no health emergency in sight there either. So what are we waiting for?"
There is a "German Angst"
The head of the SHI complained that the Corona policy has been following the line of "caution, caution, caution!" for the past year and a half. There is a "German Angst", and in this country "we have been under the illusion of control for far too long. That's why the change of course is all the more difficult for some." In Great Britain, more infections were knowingly allowed. That was certainly "brash", "but at the moment the situation in England proves the advocates of Freedom Day right".
Corona becomes a normal disease
Gassen commented bitingly on recent statements by Charité virologist Christian Drosten that in Great Britain the corona condition would become "endemic", i.e. largely harmless, much earlier than in Germany. "Christian Drosten's statements are quite remarkable!" said Gassen. "Now he states - as other virologists already said a year ago - that corona will weaken to a normal disease when a significant proportion of the population is 'contaminated', as is foreseeable for the UK. And because Germany has been maximally cautious, Corona will remain a threat to us for a long time, and therefore we have to be cautious for a long time. Seriously, this reasoning is a bit idiosyncratic."
Contradictory German Corona policy
The rate of fully vaccinated people on the island, at a good 65 per cent, is only slightly higher than in Germany, the head of the KBV pointed out. "This reveals the whole contradictory nature of the German Corona policy," he said. "It was clear pretty quickly that at some point just about everyone would have had contact with this virus. And that therefore any attempt to starve Corona out by locking people away is doomed to failure, see the failure of Zero Covid in Australia."
Vaccination rate of 70 per cent is sufficient
Gassen added that he was "very confident" that a 70 per cent vaccination rate could be quickly achieved through a "Freedom Day" announcement. "But that would probably also be sufficient, since the risk groups are already largely vaccinated." It would hardly be possible to achieve much more than 70 per cent, since children up to the age of twelve, for example, could not yet be vaccinated. And part of the population simply refuses to be vaccinated. "But there will also be considerably more than four million people who have officially recovered, who have already survived an infection and are immune, probably more than 10 million in total," the KBV head speculated. "Against this background, a vaccination rate of 70 percent would be a very good and sufficient value. So we have to get there as quickly as possible."
Non-vaccinated people have a residual risk
For those who continue not to be vaccinated, there is always a residual risk of ending up in intensive care, for example because previous illnesses that lead to severe courses in a corona infection have not been detected.
