Der Vorsitzende der Atlantik-Brücke, Ex-SPD-Chef Sigmar Gabriel, hat US-Attacken auf die Ostsee-Pipeline Nordstream 2 scharf zurückgewiesen.
"Man kann zu dieser Pipeline zwischen Russland und Deutschland stehen, wie man will. Aber es kann nicht sein, dass ein Verbündeter eingreift in europäisches Recht", sagte Gabriel der in Bielefeld erscheinenden Neuen Westfälischen. Es gebe keinen Anlass, das Projekt zu stoppen. Gabriel forderte zugleich ein Signal Europas an die USA für ein gemeinsames Auftreten in der Welt. Europa habe auf die Initiative des US-Präsidenten Biden, eine bessere Welt zu gestalten sehr zurückhaltend reagiert. "Dabei ist eine Balance in der Weltpolitik nur durch ein starkes Europa plus den USA möglich", so Gabriel.

Nur USA übernehmen.Verantwortung für Osteuropa
Deutschland erfülle nicht das Ziel, zwei Prozent des Bruttosozialproduktes in die Verteidigung zu stecken. "Wir könnten 1,5 Prozent mehr für die Bundeswehr ausgeben. Und 0,5 Prozent für den Schutz der osteuropäischen Nato-Staaten bereitstellen", schlägt Gabriel vor. "Da wären die Polen überrascht und es wäre ein starkes Signal, weil bisher nur die USA bereit sind, Verantwortung für die Sicherheit Osteuropas zu übernehmen."
Ein bisschen mehr Demut vor anderen Ländern
Der frühere SPD-Vorsitzende wies auch die Kritik an dem Emirat Katar und der Fußball-WM dort 2022 scharf zurück. "Gerade wir Deutschen neigen dazu, andere Länder immer nur nach unseren Maßstäben zu beurteilen und nicht danach, welche Wegstrecke diese Länder bereits geschafft haben", so Gabriel. Dabei seien "wir Deutschen lange Zeit knietief durch Blut gewatet, bis wir zu dem Land wurden, das wir heute sind", sagte der Vorsitzende der Atlantik-Brücke und mahnte: "Ein bisschen mehr Demut vor der Entwicklung anderer Länder würde uns ganz gut tun." pm, ots
